The Anatomy of a Profitable Facebook Ad

Successful Facebook Ad Campaign
So now that you know what a Facebook Ad looks like, why it's superior to any other form of advertising, and how the Audience Targeting works (read blog post), let’s go a bit deeper into the advertising campaigns that we run for our ad clients.

Here are the ads we ran on Facebook for 3 different types of clients and niches: Fitness (Gym Owner), Healthcare (Chiropractor), and Real Estate.

Facebook Ad for Gym Owner
(Pilates Studio)
Facebook Ad for Healthcare Provider (Chiropractor)
Facebook Ad for
Real Estate Agent
So basically a person would come across one of these ads as they are casually scrolling through their Facebook newsfeed...

If the ad catches their eye and it's something they are interested in, they would click on the ad and visit our client's website, where they become a lead by entering their name, email, and phone number in exchange for the voucher, gift card, or any other "special offer" or deal.

Since each of the 3 ads above are for different niches, each ad would have its own Audience Targeting (read about Audience Targeting here). Again, only the people that fall into that specific Audience Targeting would be able to see that particular ad.
The Special Offer
If you've been with me so far, congratulations, you now know more about Facebook Ads than 90% of the competitors in your niche! And this is very powerful ammo for your business's arsenal.

Now if you look closely at all 3 ads above, you'll notice that they all have something in common... They all offer the person something tangible that they can get by clicking on the ad...

This is because you need to have some kind of special offer when advertising on Facebook to catch the person's attention. Advertisers also call this the "bait" or "lead magnet" (to literally attract and bring in leads like a magnet).

The 3 special offers for the ads above are:
Special Offer for Gym Owner
(Pilates Studio)
[Gift Card for a Free 30-Minute
Pilates Training Session]
Special Offer for Healthcare Provider (Chiropractor)
[$25 Voucher for a 1-hour
Chiropractic Visit]
Special Offer for
Real Estate Agent
[Free Toronto Real
Estate Market Report]
The special offer is the reason why a person would want to click on your ad, visit your website, and give you their name, email, & phone number in exchange for.

You see, when someone is scrolling through their Facebook newsfeed, as millions of people do daily, they are not aware of your business or product (just yet)...

Heck, at that very moment they are probably not even aware of the problem or desire that they may have (which your product solves or satisfies)... They are just scrolling through a myriad of pictures, funny videos, and friend's posts. They are what we call a "cold audience."

This is why your ad has to be compelling enough to capture their attention and make them want to leave their safe little world for just a few seconds and visit your site...

This is why you need to have a really appealing and sexy special offer!  Otherwise your ad will fail. It has to be something that your ideal client wants. And this can usually be found through simple customer research and talking to your current clients.

Ideally, the special offer should be something of value that you are giving away for FREE or low cost (under $25). It can be one free or low-cost session, if you provide a tangible hands-on service, like a chiropractor, dentist, or fitness instructor.

Or if your services are less tangible, such as a real estate agent, (you can't give away a free house), but you can provide information, in the form of a free guide, eBook, cheat sheet, PDF, video tutorial, homes for sale list, etc.
Ad Campaign Results:
So here are the results of a 1-week Facebook ads campaign that we ran for one of our ad clients (a local gym owner):

- Duration: 7 days

- Ad Spend: $363.27

- Reach: 26,122 (number of people who saw the ad)

- Clicks: 1,272 (people who clicked on the ad and visited the website)

- Leads (online): 147 (people who entered their name, email, and phone number on the website)

- Leads (physical): 35 (people who walked into the gym to claim the offer)

- Paying Customers: 10 (people who bought a monthly gym membership - $175)

So basically, with the help of Facebook ads and a simple sales funnel (read about this funnel here)for $363 we were able to bring the gym owner 10 new clients in 1 week.

If each client brings $175 of revenue to that gym owner per month, it means the ad brought in $1,750 of monthly revenue on a $363 ad spend.  That’s $21,000 of yearly revenue!

Just to put things into perspective, this is: an ROI of 2,480%.

Monthly ROI: 382% (5X)
Yearly ROI: 5,685% (57X)
